Part 1 - Installing Drupal

construction

Ok, since I said I’d start at the beginning bear with me as I go through installing Drupal. Just kidding! Why reinvent the wheel, when a community of great Drupal developers have already provided a great handbook. So put yer hard hats on and lets get to it.

Where to Start:

That’s all well and good but what if I don’t want to do all that configuration stuff and I don’t know PHP?

No worries, once you figure out your domain there are plenty of hosting services that provide fantastico free of charge. Fantastico is a series of scripts that wil install Drupal, Wordpress, Phpbb and other well known open source code patterns with a press of a button. I highly recommmend using fantastico because installing is easy, upgrading is easy, uninstalling is easy, etc. I personally use BlueHost as my hosting provider for some of my sites and they have been pretty good by me.

Ok, now that we have gotten installation out of the way we can finally get on to the real meat and potatoes of building your very own Social Network, Flickr, Digg, themed out site.

  1. Matt Martone says:

I had some trouble installing drupal 5 on yahoo because of privileges that my mysql user needed.

I finally just emailed yahoo support and they have my user all necessary privileges. After that everything worked well.

Looking forwar to your theme post. I need to know how to build a custom theme. Maybe you can shed some light.
