Live from New York Ad:Tech
After an overwhelming 2 days of talking shop in the New York Hilton I was more than ready for some downtime at the keyboard. Ad:Tech New York is the biggest online advertising and marketing conference of the year and everyone from the big guns (Google), up and comers (Direct Agents), to the small guys (fill-in-the-blank media) comes out and displays a booth. If you’re saavy to the online industry then you’ll know who is scrapping by to put together a booth and who is big time, but be wary just because you see a plasma tv display doesn’t mean xyz media is legit. In fact, most of the big players that I know in the industry didn’t display a booth and were there incognito checking out the scene. So now to the nuts and bolts:
1. Online Advertising is alive and kicking! This was perhaps the biggest turnout ever and so many new companies were emerging that there is definitely some belief that the wave of economic mana is still there.
2. Friendster has indeed fallen - I’m not going to lie when you see (what used to be) a major social network displaying a booth, wait not even a booth but a table, that can’t be a good sign.
to be continued…
