Reddit gets Acquired!
I kind of figured this one was coming with all the Digg acquisition talks going on. Not a bad move by Wired buying the smaller brother of social news in Reddit. I would however say that there is a reason that Reddit never eclipses or approached Digg in terms of user base or popularity, and that reason will still exist under Wired. Reddit just isn’t a consistently reliable source for news. What makes it so friendly to users is the ease of article submission, however that same reason makes the news somewhat questionable in content.
The same can be said for Digg (i.e. gaming Digg and the kinds of articles that make Digg’s frontpage are questionable) at times but overall they do a pretty good job of keeping articles worth reading on the front page.
That said, kudos to the 4 Reddit owners! Don’t spend all that money in one place. To read more about Wired’s acquisition of Reddit check out TechCrunch’s article.
