I recently got a chance to test Competito.us yesterday and I was fairly impressed. Competito.us is basically an AJAX web app where you can keep all your competitions’ blogs, alexa data, features, and all other industry factors in one place. I wish this service was around back when I was scoping out my competition, it sure would have beat my endless post-its on a bulletin board and our oh-so-wrong-spreadsheet. Although I’m not sure it would provided the same fun factor of throwing darts at a company logo’s during a 2am brainstorming session.

Features of note
Traffic - Though I know Alexa data is basically worth 2 pennies minus the pennies it is still nice to have that data gathered in one spot on the same graph. C’mon admit it, as badly as a lot of people bash Alexa I know that if you own a website you’ve gone back and checked your ranking. You may not have been excited if it jumped in the rankings but you did check nonetheless, probably followed by mutterring “man, this thing is so worthless I’m never doing this again”. To which we will inevitably go back and check again a month later, mostly because until Hitwise hooks up the public for free there isn’t much out there asides from PageRank.

RSS Feeds - Having your competitors RSS feeds from their blogs in one place is also pretty handy. For some reason I consider my netvibes page kind of personal a sacred and the last thing I want is a competitors blog on my netvibes page, so Competitious is the perfect place to have the conglomeration of RSS feeds.

Clip Bookmark Bar - Following del.icio.us’s model in more than just name sake Competito.us added their on “clip it” to your bookmark bar that works exactly like del.icio.us’s “post it” button. I like this feature because when I’m reading articles on techcrunch or mashable or whichever it makes it really easy to add an article about a competitor to my Competitious project.
