Top 5 Widgets the World needs
Widgets, widgets, widgets. I’m not exactly sure why there is this sudden crazy to add widgets to everyone’s site other than it’s easy to do. Just plop in some generated script onto your site and now you have a YouTube daily video right on your blog. So I got to thinking (often times dangerous for me) and I decided to help sift through the rabble of the exponentially growing list of widgets and make a list of the top 5 that I’d love to see, drum roll please, and here they are:
1. Take out Chinese Food Locater Widget - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been reading a blog or surfing the net when I’m like dang I could use a potsticker right now or better yet some BBQ pork fried rice.
How it would work - The widget would sit right there on your desktop or on your browser and as your surfing you could just enter your zipcode and a chinese dish and up pops the nearest chinese restaurant that will deliver pork dumplings. Sweet bliss, sweet bliss indeed.
2. Stealth Instant Messenger Widget - This widget would essentially keep you in invisible mode if you are on AIM and display the friends that are online in a browser toolbar. The ultimate in Stealth IM’ing during work.
Why do I need this - For work of course. In the same way Meebo allows you to get around that pesky system admin that blocks you from signing onto AIM or MSN this widget is totally invisible to your peers and boss. It’s the ultimate in 007 IM’ing, an instant messenger client that looks like a toolbar.

3. Text Messenger Widget - This widget would also sit on your browser, and would be applicable with all cell phone companies. There is nothing worse than trying to text someone using the Cingular website. Too often the thing crashes admist your text, freezing your computer screen that so that even ctrl-alt-del can’t save you. Yes I sound bitter, maybe it’s because my boss can testify that no matter what I did he could still see my non-work appropriate text to my roommate about his bathroom habits.
to be continued later today…
