Live from…BuddyTV

So after (very surprisingly) making the front page of the Tech section of Newsvine.com the BuddyTV Team noticed my little blog and wrote me this note explaining how they feel about their space and BuddyTV’s position in the industry:

BuddyTV Associate Producer writes:

We’re in an exciting space right now. With the convergence of the internet and television, BuddyTV is a great way for people to have fun and be more interactive with their favorite shows and at the same time, our unique application opens up tremendous opportunities for TV networks and advertisers.

Kate

parting thoughts…

Sounds like they’re pretty stoked. I look forward to seeing how they are going to build a user-base and perhaps more importantly what kind of advertising model they are going to come up with pay their bills with. If they Tip like other social networks have done, see YouTube, then I think they will have a lot of different options.

I personally think that the real value that BuddyTV can offer advertisers is first hand market research. Where else can you find people that love your TV show and are online and willing to chat with you real time? If you’re a TV show producer why wouldn’t you tap into this captured audience, you could ask what they value in a DVD for extras, what character irritates them, what character they want to see developed more, etc.

The possibilites are limited only by the advertiser’s creativity. For example, personally I would like to see more of Kate on “LOST”.
