BuddyTV - Social Networking, Chat, TV….Forums 2.0

BuddyTV beta LogoBuddyTV can best be described as mix match of Social Networking, Chat, and TV with a healthy dose of AJAX. If someone sat me down and asked me to define BuddyTV I would go with…TV Show Forums 2.0 or People Magazine 2.0. The approach or rather spin on merging TV and social networking that BuddyTV has taken is a bit different. This site is for anyone that has ever been, or is currently, addicted to a particular TV show. C’mon I know there are plenty of us that couldn’t stop watching 24, pulled more than our share of all nighters watching DVD after DVD until dawn. So here’s the nuts and bolts of what BuddyTV is all about and why they are cool:

What is BuddyTV and Why is it cool?

Michelle Deighton -TVJ for Last Model Standing 1. TVJ’s - Wait what is a TVJ? A TVJ is basically a person that is on the TV show, has been on a previous show (if it’s a reality show it might be a past “Survivor”, or someone that can be a moderator for a live chat session aka a TVJ Session. This is BuddyTV’s huge differentiator between your typical social networks and chatrooms or forums about a TV show and a TVJ Session. BuddyTV has actual former actors and participants as TVJs, just the other night a Last Model Stranding girl was hosting her own TVJ session (shown right).

Raven Logo 2. TVJ Session - Basically you search for the TV show that you are interested in and most likely they will have a TVJ Session that you can join. Then all you do is sign up and join when the TVJ Session is active, usually right before a show or right after a show. After that it’s a free-for-all chatroom where the TVJ leads the charge from insider gossip to just overall, “who should we kick off American Idol” type stuff. Though more importantly BuddyTV has now decided to jump into the Football realm, which is a great thing because I for one will always want to vent about how the players on my Fantasy Football team sucked wind (Can I get a Touchdown Cadillac?! Seriously man, just one!).

Summary

In the end BuddyTV is a mix of TV, Chat, and Social Networking with a dash of AJAX and I like what they have going. They have already built up a loyal following and I expect to see them grow as they evolve with their users and really hit the sweet spot of mixing chat, social networking, and tv. Cheers and good luck.
